Espécie equídea autóctone, embora vivam em estado selvagem, na sua maioria, pertencem a produtores desta espécie animal. Podem ser encontrados em diversas zonas de Portugal e Espanha porque trata-se de uma raça Ibérica. Estes, são garranos de Castro Laboreiro.
